What's in store for Panagbenga 2012?

So what is it to expect from  the 2012 Panagbenga Festival in Baguio?  Seems to be a lot of fun surprises as I chanced upon the official website for the event. Which apart from being filled with sponsor logos has its own online customer service link.  I have been to ONE Panagbenga Event in the past and the nostalgia and excitement is almost close to being indescribable.  There were lots of people who flocked the main streets to get a good spot for the highly anticipated float parade and street dance competition.  Everyone was wearing their best smiles despite the crowd and every time a new float passes-by it seems like time stops for that moment.

The website is not as detailed as I was expecting it to be but it has the basics, one of them would be the comprehensive event calendar and a FAQ which I captured below.

Panagbenga FAQ's
What would be the best day to visit the month-long Panagbenga festival?
Well, it’s a month-long mix of multifarious activities that is guaranteed to satisfy one’s senses. Thus, everyday is the “best day.”

When would be a great time to reserve a hotel room for the festival?
No sooner than we say goodbye to 2011, most accommodations get filled to the rafters once the calendar of activities is out. As such, it is advisable to pickup the phone and make your reservations once you’ve decided which activity you want to be part of… that time, my friend, is now!

The Panagbenga festival is held during the months of February and March. What is the climate of Baguio during these months? What clothes should we bring?
February to March are months when the freezing climate begins to taper in favor of something a bit more temperate. Thick jackets are out and light long-sleeved shirts to loud-colored t-shirts are in during the season.

Below are the official contact details of this year's organizers.

  1. This is one of the tourist attractions festivals in our country, which I want to witness personally. My curiosity is not unfilled. I don't have any idea how it did happen to be called as "Panagbenga". What's the origin of this? As far as I know this is all about flower festival similar to, I think, flower festival in America.

  2. i think it was from a local dialect (Ilocano) to refer to season when the flowers bloom...just like spring..

  7. I've been to Baguio on a February in 2008 to attend the National Press Conference but unlucky to have not chanced the Panagbenga Festival. Someday, I'm going back to Baguio City just for the sole purpose of experiencing Panagbenga Festival.

  9. I am planning to go there for the float parade and many bloggers really suggest that you have to be as early as possible to get the best spot. Lucky you stole a great position there. Hope I'll be able to get my convenient spot too.
